How to find your mission

I believe that a lot of people struggle with the idea of ‘mission’ – or lack of it – in their lives. It’s probably why corporate mission statements attract so much derision. We as human beings always bring the quickest and harshest criticism to those faults in others, that we’re most ashamed of in ourselves.

I thought you would like these two quotes from Eckhart Tolle’s book, ‘A New Earth’. It takes the pressure off finding your mission, by declaring that your main purpose, your inner purpose, is simply to awaken to the present moment.

“So be true to your life by being true to your inner purpose. As you become present and thereby total in what you do, your actions become charged with spiritual power. At first there may be no noticeable change in what you do – only the how changes. Your primary purpose is now to enable consciousness to flow into what you do. The secondary purpose is whatever you want to achieve through the doing.”

“When you are present, when your attention is fully in the Now, that Presence will flow into and transform what you do. There will be quality and power in it. You are present when what you are doing is not primarily a means to an end (money, prestige, winning) but fulfilling in itself, when there is joy and aliveness in what you do.”

At LCN, our secondary purpose is very humble. It is simply to use our legal skills, commercial understanding and contacts to help our clients achieve what they want in their business arrangements – whether it’s creating joint ventures, buying or selling companies, or protecting their assets.

Our primary purpose is, of course, to bring our total attention to what we are doing.
